A Wheel of the Year

This past year October 2021- September 2022, was the first year I intentionally walked this Wheel of the Year path: through Druidic practices, reflections, and ceremonies. By rhythmic coincidence, and probably from witnessing our organization's (Hyde Square Task Force) celebration of Día de Los Muertos, I was pulled to dive into this journey with the Wheel. As I went along this past year's Wheel, I received a surprising gift. A gift in the form of a ritual community performance that was called Laying Labyrinths: A Living Performance. The buttons above share blips of memories from along the way.

As you click through the seasons of the year, I will share not only how this performance came to me through journal excerpts and other writings, but I will also share small practices inspired by my walk with the Wheel of the Year. Practices that attuned me to the seasonal patterns of working with the sun and moon, light and dark, with the heat and the cold, with hibernation and growth. I will leave out some of my deep personal explorations and not share any specific Druidic practices. This choice is to honor the traditions I am still actively learning. With each of these practices, I grew a new appreciation as I witnessed my relationship with the seasons shift over this past year. If you are interested in learning more about Druidic practices, here is a link to the Bardic Course I enrolled in with the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids (OBOD) (Burke).

I will be inviting you, dear reader, to engage in offers based on what season you are in. Do not try to do all of this at one time of the year. Wherever you are in the year, engage with that particular season. I ask this because I am reminded of adrienne maree brown's Emergent Strategy principles that say, "There is always enough time for the right work...[and] What you pay attention to grows" (Brown 41). So let's take our time, really stew in the heat, cold, crispness, or dew of a season and allow our attention to land on what is right in front of you. Sit with it and see what comes up.

The web pages will invite you to exchange with me, to actively participate with the offerings and it will give you space to share your reflections digitally. For your privacy's sake, all these pages are hidden in the navigation of the website and will remain that way. This page and these buttons can only be accessed through interacting with the thesis or any future workshops given based on the thesis work.

When you have finished interacting with the particular season you are in, find your way back to the rest of the thesis.
